Midsummer ( Manuel Arguilla)

The story was only short made more ecstatic through its different estranging descriptions. It was a wonderful story only showing the life of a poor but energetic peasant.
The story is about a peasant boy and a peasant girl’s encounter in a remote village well at noontime with the burning summer heat. They both have the same low status. The setting in the story brought about the bareness, loss of hope and success. It wasn't a comfortable place. Their culture was similar to a rural place. But all the negative side of the place was just useless for the vigor of the characters.
The actions of the peasant girl was more like a " Maria Clara" during the Spanish era. She was a timid and very conservative one. She  has to live with only “rice and salt” in contrast with the man’s “rice, egg, salt, brown sugar and dried shrimps.” In fact, she felt bad with the situation. It still showed how she was low treated  and deprived as any marginalized woman in the society. But the man treated her well and respected her.

The Woman Warrior (Maxine Hong Kingston)

The story focuses on the identity formation of  Chinese women who have long been demoralized by the Chinese male tradition.
I never thought that Chinese women during those times are useless and verbally tortured. I think the main character in the story interpreted that if you were a female better yet not exist. Being a women was a disgrace to your family and to everyone. But I wonder if this situation still applies during our times. I think their reason for not recognizing women are unjustifiable. It really depends on the person. Sometimes women can achieve beyond expected results. The women fought for her dignity and tried hard to gain full control of her faith and status. Gaining her identity means doing a man's job.  I also thought the story meant being a wife makes you useless and powerless.
But the story also discussed women's topics,  encouraging and support dialogue regarding sociological, historical, literary, and ethnic issues. It makes you realize that you need to try hard and never give up no matter what gender you are. No matter what you're standing is in the hierarchical society.

Shooting an Elephant (George Orwell)

The story showed the same setting in Orwell's experience in India and Burma. The British was taking over Burma. Orwell claimed that he was against the evil oppressors the British.  He was a colonial officer between the two wars. The two regions have anger. distrust and resentment. He became stuck in the situation full of racial discrimination and imperialism reign during those times. The story tells about him forced to shoot a scoundrel elephant. He really didn't want to shoot the elephant. He was only forced by the indigenous residents, before he didn't want to appear cowardly.
I think what he did wasn't right at the first place his reason and decision for killing the elephant was unreasonable. It was too much it wasn't really for the sake of majority of the native crowd. His reasons was for him to gain popularity and I guess to earn the respect of the people. A person can gain respect through doing good deeds you have to work hard for it. Besides, the reports of the crowd weren't accurate. Nothing was constant and evident enough to prove that the elephant did harm. Although, like the coolie man's unfortunate death the misery of killing the elephant wasn't right. Maybe the coolie man threatened the elephant so it fought back. The point is killing the elephant harshly wasn't proper. He could have just guarded it to prevent harm till the manhout came back.
The real job of the police officer was to maintain peace and kill only if necessary.

HELLO KITTY :p

HELLO KITTY
This is my favorite cartoon character. She is a cute little female bobcat with a red bow. She is a fictional character made by a Japanese company Sanrio. Her real name is Kitty White and she was born in London, England on November 1. Her height is described as five apples and her weight as three apples. She is portrayed as a bright and kind hearted girl, very close to her twin sister Mimmy. She is good at baking cookies and loves Mama's homemade apple pie. She likes to collect cute things and her favorite subjects in school are English, music and art.
I think that its really weird I love this character but I hate cats. My mom has her own pet cats I hate them because their distracting and scary. I just think I love this character because when I was a child I always watch her shows. I like her because she's so cute.
