Doublespeak (William Lutz)

   It’s only now when I have read this essay that I learned using a lighter language to avoid hurting other people’s feeling is called a Doublespeak. Words become nicer to hear and more comfortable to use in a conversation.

     There are different kinds of doublespeak: Firstly, Euphemism this are words used to avoid unpleasant truth. Mostly these kinds of words are used to express condolence to someone or to protect other’s feeling. Secondly, Jargon this are specialized language. Mostly these are used by lawyers, doctors, engineers and other group of workers. It’s their mark of membership, only they can understand their words. Thirdly, Gobbledygook or Bureaucratese is group of words which overwhelm the audience; these are known to have longer sentences which make it better. Lastly, inflated language is designed to make ordinary words more beautiful. Blue collar jobs as if a professional or higher as it seems.

     These kinds of doublespeak are used worldwide even though not known well it’s not a bad thing to use doublespeak. Its uses are not to be deceived. I think using this kind of language is useful to avoid corruption and exploitation to our minds.
