A History of Geek Civilization (Jessica Zafra)

The essay narrated the life of a geek. It showed the authors life from the start to the end in a very simple and short way. It described how the author had accomplished her works and how she was able to face every day of her life. She was fonder of reading fiction books she loved reading them it became her hobby and day to day work. Reading became her way to success by reading she became wiser each day. Even after her graduation her job was still related to literature.
I think that this was also an interesting essay the author expressed what she felt and its only based on her opinion and experiences. Anything can happen with a different person not all are the same it’s a matter of faith and whatever may come in life.

Excerpt from Out of Africa: The Ngong Farm (Isak Dinesen)

The story showed the life in a farm particularly in Africa. The story made Africa alive and powerful on its own.  The essay showed not only the weaknesses but also the strength of Africa itself upon its nature and people.
The story is a descriptive essay it portrayed Africa well and very extraordinary. How such a simple place can give and have so much treasure more than gold. It made me think also that the things we should appreciate are the wonders of nature.

American is tough on Macho (Rose Del Castillo Guilbault)

The ways we define macho nowadays are really different. It’s like we more define macho as a man with his either positive or negative sides. Being real men is like having this masculine type even smoking and drinking can give them an appeal. It started during the early times as describes by the Latin male as macho to an alleged mass murderer. This still had given macho the bad name. The way we describe macho should be more like a genuine type of person, a man more of a gentlemen.
The essay showed the different perspective of different peoples in different nations how they describe a macho.  It illustrated a macho being tougher and conquering all what may come in its way. I think this standpoint is sought in a wrong way. I think it should be referred to as a positive description to all.

After Gadaffi (Dirk Vandewalle)

This was an expository essay of the history of Libya. This showed the broken promises of the politician Gadaffi. It showed the worst possible scenarios brought into their land. This past shouldn’t be forgotten hence it should be a warning and remembrance to all from the mistakes that should never happen again.
This essay made us wonder what possible upcoming event could save Libya from its distress past. This essay can remind every politician in charge next to Gadaffi’s reign should learn from its past mistakes, try to set everything right and move on from the past.

Why Marriages Fail (Anne Roiphe)

There are many reasons why divorce is happening around the world. This essay enumerated examples the reasons why this is possible. The essay defined divorce and how to keep a relationship strong. It defined communication to each other as a means of staying strong and having your own quality time and space.
I think this information given by the essay is an exemplification of the reality in every relationship. There are no perfect relationship there is only a way to keep it stronger and stand till the end by overcoming differences and troubles along the way.

Why Leaves Turn Color in the Fall (Diane Ackerman)

The essay made me thought of it as a scientific one. It’s as if the explanations and descriptions were to be give details scientifically. But it was not really that scientifically, it only showed the true meaning that also something’s are left unexplainable. The colors have no meaningful purpose at all it was only for beauty. Sometimes we just have to enjoy what the world has to offer. This essay had also enumerated some scientific explanations that brought me good information. All this information may be useful but what’s the catch still it really doesn’t matter many people tend to forget about this information. The amazing thought only of how things in the world are revolving makes this wonderful.
