The Woman Warrior (Maxine Hong Kingston)

The story focuses on the identity formation of  Chinese women who have long been demoralized by the Chinese male tradition.
I never thought that Chinese women during those times are useless and verbally tortured. I think the main character in the story interpreted that if you were a female better yet not exist. Being a women was a disgrace to your family and to everyone. But I wonder if this situation still applies during our times. I think their reason for not recognizing women are unjustifiable. It really depends on the person. Sometimes women can achieve beyond expected results. The women fought for her dignity and tried hard to gain full control of her faith and status. Gaining her identity means doing a man's job.  I also thought the story meant being a wife makes you useless and powerless.
But the story also discussed women's topics,  encouraging and support dialogue regarding sociological, historical, literary, and ethnic issues. It makes you realize that you need to try hard and never give up no matter what gender you are. No matter what you're standing is in the hierarchical society.
